Abhishek Sharma emerged as a standout performer for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in their emphatic 31-run win over the Mumbai Indians (MI) in the 8th match of the ongoing IPL 2024 at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on March 27.
Sharma etched his name in the record books by hammering the fastest fifty ever recorded by a SRH player, achieving the feat in a mere 16 balls on Wednesday. He was awarded 'Player of the Match' honors for his exceptional performance against MI in Hyderabad.
Well, after the match, Abhishek revealed the message from the SRH team management, and it was pretty simple: “Go out and express yourself.” He also talked about his personal feat.
Abhishek Sharma said during the post-match press conference: “To be honest I didn't realise that it was the fastest fifty for SRH and for this year. I just wanted to go and express myself and after getting out I realised that it was the quickest. I enjoyed it.”
He added, “I think the message was pretty much simple for all the batters in the meeting we had before this match. 'Everyone just go and express yourself'. That's a very positive message if you get it from your captain and coach. That's really supportive for all the batters.”
The young batter also said that he really enjoyed batting with one of his favourite batters Travis Head. He and Head stitched together 68 runs off just 22 balls for the second wicket for SRH against MI. He added, “I was batting with Travis and he is one of my favourite batters. I really enjoyed batting with him.”
Sharma also admitted that when Tilak Varma (64 off 34 balls), Tim David (42 not out off 22), and Hardik Pandya (24 off 20 balls) were batting, SRH was concerned about the result.
He signed off by saying, “When Tilak Varma, Hardik bhai and even Tim David were batting, we were still a bit, I won't say worried but concerned. The way they were playing it was very good but we knew our bowlers were very much prepared for this kind of situation and they executed really well.”
