Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill acknowledged the superior batting strength of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and praised their flawless execution with the ball after GT’s 63-run defeat in the 7th match of the ongoing IPL 2024 on Tuesday (March 26).
The defending champions, CSK, showcased an exceptional performance to hand the first defeat of the season to GT at their home ground, MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
CSK, under their new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, showed remarkable dominance, particularly on the challenging playing surface of Chepauk, securing their second consecutive win in the ongoing IPL 2024.
After the game, Gill openly acknowledged CSK's outstanding performance while highlighting GT’s batting struggle that led to their massive 63-run defeat on Tuesday.
Shubman Gill said at the post-match presentation: “They outplayed us when they were batting and when they bowled, their execution was spot on. We backed ourselves to get a good powerplay score but once we couldn't, we were always playing catch up.”
The GT skipper lamented his team’s inability to establish a strong foundation during the powerplay overs while acknowledging the significance of marginal gains in T20 cricket.
Gill signed off by saying, “In T20, you can always talk about 10-15 runs here and there but eventually it is about how much they got. We were expecting to chase anything between 190 to 200, but we can talk about how we could've stopped a few more boundaries. Rather have games like these at the start of the tournament. We let ourselves down while batting.”
