Uttar Pradesh batter Sameer Rizvi entered the IPL 2024 with a lot of expectations. He was signed by defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) during the auction last December for a hefty sum of INR 8.40 Crore.
While Rizvi didn’t get a chance to bat in CSK’s campaign opener versus RCB on March 22, the 20-year-old showed a glimpse of his exceptional talent against the Gujarat Titans (GT) at Chepauk on Tuesday (March 26).
Sameer Rizvi came out to bat at No. 6 in the penultimate over of CSK’s innings. Facing his first ball in the IPL, the youngster smashed star spinner Rashid Khan for a huge six over deep backward square leg. Two deliveries later, he danced down the track to hit another maximum over lone-off.
Here’s the video:
In the final over, Mohit Sharma dismissed Rizvi but not before the right-hander returned with a valuable cameo of 14 from 6 balls.
Earlier, the likes of Ruturaj Gaikwad (46 off 36), Rachin Ravindra (46 off 20) and Shivam Dube (51 off 23) made significant contributions with the bat as CSK racked up a massive 206/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
