India batter Shubman Gill was named the Gujarat Titans (GT) captain after Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians (MI) ahead of the IPL 2024 in an all-cash deal.
Gill’s IPL captaincy got off to a positive start as GT registered a narrow six-run victory over MI in their campaign opener at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday (March 24).
In his second match as skipper, Shubman is currently facing the defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) at Chepauk. However, it seems that the youngster is still adjusting to his new role.
After winning the toss against CSK, Gill made a hilarious goof up at the toss. He said that his team would bat first but quickly corrected himself by announcing that they would bowl first.
"Bat first, bowl bowl first, sorry bowl first," the Gujarat Titans skipper said at the toss.
“That (match against MI) match was physical and mentally exhausting. Everyone is well rested and well settled with 10 teams playing. We get enough rest time between matches. It shows the character of the team, the way our bowlers bounced back against Mumbai. Playing with the same team," he added.
