Shubman Gill with his father and sister | XGujarat Titans (GT) new skipper Shubman Gill made a winning start to his captaincy career as his team defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2024 opening match on Sunday, March 24.

GT successfully defended 168 runs against MI and won the game by 6 runs. Sai Sudharsan starred with the bat, top-scoring for GT with 45 runs, while four bowlers picked two wickets each, with Spencer Johnson taking 2/25 on his IPL debut.

Shubman Gill got a warm welcome from his father, Lakhwinder Singh, and his sister Shahneel Gill after the Gt squad returned to the team hotel after the match.

Gill’s father and sister’s joy knew no bounds as they showered their beloved family member with hugs and kisses. Shubman also had a broad smile on his face while meeting his dear ones following GT’s victory over Hardik Pandya’s MI.

Shubman Gill attributed the team's success to a stellar bowling display, particularly highlighting the magnificent contributions from the spinners, alongside lauding Sudarshan's crucial innings of 45 in 39 balls, with three fours and a six, under pressure.

"The way the boys held their nerves with dew coming in, it was outstanding. The way our spinners bowled made sure we are always in the game,” Gill said in the post-match presentation.

"He has been a revelation for us," Gill continued, emphasizing Sudarshan's emergence as a key asset for the team in critical situations.

Expressing gratitude towards the spirited fanbase, Gill extended appreciation to the supporters for their unwavering presence and vocal support throughout the match.

"The crowd is one thing, have always come whether it is a day game or a night game and shout out to all the fans who have come here to support us," Gill remarked.
