Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Thursday (March 21) suffered a big blow as leg-spinner Adam Zampa pulled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 season, citing personal reasons.
Zampa, who was retained by Rajasthan Royals for INR 1.5 crore ahead of the auction last December, has withdrawn his name following a busy season for Australia. Zampa's manager confirmed the development to ESPNCricinfo.
The 31-year-old was a part of Rajasthan’s robust spin attack, also featuring India's Ravichandran Ashwin and Yuzvendra Chahal.
The Australian spinner represented RR in six matches last season, picking up eight wickets at an average of 23.50 with the best figures of 3/22 against Chennai Super Kings.
Zampa's decision to opt out depleted the RR bowling attack even further since they are already entering the IPL 2024 without fast bowler Prasidh Krishna, who underwent surgery on his left proximal quadriceps tendon last month and was ruled out of this year's IPL.
The inaugural IPL champions are yet to announce a replacement player for either Adam Zampa and Prasidh Krishna.
The 2024 edition of IPL is slated to get underway on March 22 with the CSK versus RCB clash. Rajasthan Royals will open their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants in Jaipur on Sunday (March 24).
