IPL 2024: Sandeep Warrier replaces Mohammad Shami in GT; MI bring in Kwena Maphaka for Dilshan Madushanka

Mohammad Shami underwent surgery for his Achilles injury and will miss IPL 2024.

Shami has been replaced by Warrier in GT  | IPL/XThe IPL 2024 will begin on March 22 with a match between RCB and defending champions CSK in Chennai. However, the IPL 17 has been marred with injuries to key players of various franchises and pull-outs as well.

The IPL on their official social media handles announced that finalists of last year’s IPL, Gujarat Titans (GT) have announced the replacement for injured pacer Mohammad Shami.

Shami underwent surgery for his Achilles injury which he had since the World Cup 2023 and was ruled out of the IPL tournament. As a result, the GT franchise has named Sandeep Warrier as his replacement. Warrier has played 5 IPL matches and will join GT for his base price of INR 50 Lac.

Kwena Maphaka replaces Dilshan Madhushanka in MI | Getty/MI XOn the other hand, Mumbai Indians have lost the services of Sri Lanka left-arm pacer Dilshan Madhushanka. He suffered a left hamstring injury during his team's second ODI game against Bangladesh on March 15.

In his place, MI has signed South Africa’s U19 pacer Kwena Maphaka as a replacement for Madushanka. Maphaka was the standout star of the U19 World Cup, claiming an incredible 21 wickets to finish as the tournament's leading wicket-taker and also the Player of the Tournament.

He joins MI franchise for his base price of INR 50 lakhs.
