Good news for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as their captain Shreyas Iyer received medical clearance to take part in the upcoming IPL 2024, but there's a condition.

Iyer was sidelined for the final two days of Mumbai's Ranji Trophy finals due to reoccurrence of his back problem. However, the Indian batter has been medically cleared to play in the upcoming IPL 2024 but cautioned against excessive lunging during the forward defense, as it may worsen his injury.

According to a report in The Indian Express, Iyer sought advice from a spine specialist in Mumbai following consultations with the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bangalore.

The specialist has given the KKR captain the green signal to play in the IPL 2024, but with the warning that he must be careful while extending his leg forward to avoid further issues.

A BCCI source told the Indian Express: “He is fit to play, a specialist spine doctor was consulted in Mumbai who has advised him not to stretch his leg too forward while defending the ball. He has joined IPL franchise KKR and he can play.”

Well, Iyer has already joined the KKR camp and started practicing for the upcoming 17th edition of the world’s biggest T20 league. He will be returning to the leadership role after missing the last season.

Notably, KKR will kick-start their IPL 2024 campaign against the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on March 23 at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
