The management of the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) IPL franchise has reportedly decided to change the name of the franchise ahead of the IPL 2024 tournament. RCB will clash with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2024 opening match on March 22 in Chennai.
The Virat Kohli starring RCB is one of the most popular teams in the history of the lucrative franchise T20 competition, with a large and devoted fan base in Bengaluru and around India.
With anticipation for the start of IPL 2024, the introduction of the new RCB franchise name adds another layer of excitement to the next season.
Now it has been reported that the RCB franchise will don the new name Royal Challengers Bengaluru from IPL 2024 onwards. For unversed, the Karnataka Government officially rechristened the name of the city to Bengaluru from Bangalore in 2014.

This was hinted at in a teaser shared by RCB for their Unbox event on March 19 in Bengaluru. In the teaser, Kannada actor Rishabh Shetty can be seen hinting at the name change to Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

RCB was called Royal Challengers Bangalore rather than Bengaluru due to the franchise's recognition in the cricketing world. But with the new name of the city gaining prominence, the RCB management has reportedly decided to rename their team, to align with the official name of the city.
