Rahul has been out of action after the first Test against England due to quadriceps injury.

KL Rahul | BCCI-IPLSenior India batter KL Rahul’s injury has become a topic of debate lately. The right-hander was ruled out after the first Test against England due to quadriceps injury and he is yet to regain complete fitness.

BCCI’s press release had declared Rahul 90 percent fit for the third Test in Rajkot but the injury forced him to sit out in the last three matches as well.

When the board announced India’s squad for the fifth and final Test against England last week, it also provided an update on KL Rahul.

“Mr. KL Rahul, whose participation in the final IDFC First Bank Test was subject to fitness, has been ruled out of the fifth and final Test in Dharamsala. The BCCI Medical Team is closely monitoring him and coordinating with specialists in London for further management of his issue,” BCCI’s released stated.

Meanwhile, a report published in TOI on Monday (March 4) claimed that Rahul is on track to be fit for the IPL 2024 season, slated to get underway on March 22.

"He had consulted top medical experts in London. He returned to India on Sunday and has checked into the BCCI's National Cricket Academy in Bangalore for rehab. He should get the Return to Play certificate from the NCA soon. He is keen to prove his worth in the IPL as he's in line for selection in India's T20 World Cup team as a 'keeper-bat," TOI quoted a source as saying.

KL Rahul is the captain of the Lucknow Super Giants, who will open their IPL 2024 campaign against the Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on March 24. His selection in the T20 World Cup 2024 squad will be considered based on his performance in the upcoming IPL season.

During the IPL 2023 season, Rahul had sustained a sustained a thigh injury midway through the tournament and had to undergo surgery and an extended rehabilitation at the NCA. He eventually returned to action in the Asia Cup and played a significant role in India’s stellar World Cup 2023 campaign.
