The schedule for the first 21 matches of the upcoming IPL 2024 was announced on February 22. The tournament will begin on March 22 and will see defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) playing the first match of the tournament at home in Chepauk against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB).
The BCCI released a partial schedule for the 2024 season - for the first 17 days (March 22 to April 7) during which 21 matches will be played. In this period, there will be four double-headers.
The opening day of the tournament will mark MS Dhoni's return to action which will see CSK take on Virat Kohli-starred RCB team in Chennai. He is set to arrive in Chennai in the first week of March to resume training with his team.
The other finalist of the 2023 season - Gujarat Titans - will make a blockbuster start to their campaign against their former captain Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians in Ahmedabad on March 24.
The second half of the tournament schedule is expected once the Election Commission of India reveals the dates of the national elections, which are expected to take placs of April and May.
Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals will play the first-afternoon fixture of the season on March 23 in Mohali, while Kolkata Knight Riders' season begins at home against Sunrisers Hyderabad later on the same day.
Meanwhile, Rajasthan Royals beginbeing their season at home in Jaipur against Lucknow Super Giants on the first Sunday of the season.
The first phase of the schedule sees no matches in Delhi with the Delhi Capitals playing their two home games in Vizag.
The IPL final is expected to be played on May 26, with just five days before the opening match of the ICC T20 World Cuthe p in USA and the Caribbean, on June 1.
