The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) is set to begin on March 22, five days after the Women's Premier League (WPL) ends, Cricbuzz reported.
The IPL will run until May 26, just five days before the start of the T20 World Cup in the West Indies and Caribbean. However, India's first World Cup encounter is scheduled nine days later, on June 5.
As per BCCI’s tentative schedule which has been shared with the stakeholders, the second season of the WPL will take place from February 22 to March 17. As previously reported, the league will be hosted in Bengaluru and Delhi. The official announcement of the dates is expected in a day or two, most likely on Monday.
Tata Group to continue as IPL title sponsor for 2024-28 after record bid
The IPL schedule is connected with the dates of the Lok Sabha elections and the BCCI is exploring hosting the tournament between March 22 and May 26. The schedule can only be confirmed after the election dates are revealed, but the BCCI is sure that the entire league would be held in India.
The BCCI has obtained guarantees from most cricket bodies that their players will be accessible until the final. However, with the T20 World Cup starting on June 1, early exits of some players cannot be ruled out.
