Pat Cummins and Mitchell Starc | GettyThe highly-anticipated IPL auction for the 2024 season is currently taking place in Dubai. As many as 333 players are going under the hammer for 77 vacant slots as all 10 franchises look to fine-tune their squads for the one final time before the league's 17th edition.

Fierce bidding war happened for quite a few players at the auction. However, it is the Australian duo of Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins who hogged the headlines with their price tags.

Both the players breached the Rs 20 Crore mark for the first time in the IPL auction history. While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) shelled out a whopping Rs 24.75 Crore to secure the services of Starc, Sunrisers Hyderabad roped in Cummins for a hefty sum of Rs 20.50 Crore.

Starc and Cummins were part of Australia’s 2023 World Cup triumph with the latter leading the team in the marquee event. Both of them skipped the 2023 edition of IPL to manage their workload keeping the Ashes and the World Cup in mind.

With the T20 World Cup slated to be played in June next year, their IPL experience might come in handy for Australia in the global event.

Members of the cricket fraternity were left speechless to see the way Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins triggered bidding wars among IPL franchises.
