IPL 2024: “We'll roll on”- CSK coach Stephen Fleming on succession plan for MS Dhoni

MS Dhoni is expected to lead CSK in IPL 2024.

MS Dhoni and Stephen Fleming | CSK XChennai Super Kings (CSK) coach Stephen Fleming talked about captain MS Dhoni and whether the franchise has any plans for life after their mercurial leader.

MS Dhoni has been with the franchise since IPL’s inception in 2008 and has captained them in all the seasons as well, including IPL 2022 when he had decided to leave captaincy for Ravindra Jadeja, but later took over as CSK suffered their worst performance ever.

MS Dhoni has led CSK to five IPL titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. There were speculations that IPL 2023 might be his final outing in the tournament, but MS Dhoni himself rubbished those reports.

He said that he was overwhelmed by the support he received from not only the CSK fans but the whole country, that it was only fit for him to play one more season to say thank you. Dhoni underwent knee surgery right after the IPL 2023 and is currently rehabbing.

Meanwhile, Stephen Fleming was asked about CSK’s plans for after MS Dhoni during the IPL 2024 auction in Dubai.

The CSK coach said: “We've had succession plans for MS for about 10 years. It is going to be a talking point., but he is as engaged and as enthusiastic as I have seen him for a while. While that passion is there for the team and franchise, we'll roll on.”

MS Dhoni will be 42 years old when the IPL 2024 begins in March next year.
