IPL 2024 auction to be held in Dubai on December 19, confirms BCCI

A total of 1166 players have reportedly registered for the auction.

The Indian Premier League (IPL 2024) mini-auction will be held in Dubai on 19 December, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) confirmed on Sunday. It will be the first time the auction will be held overseas.

Reports have suggested that as many as 1166 players have registered their names for the mini-auction. 30 of these players are Indian with the number of overseas players standing at 336. This list has 212 capped, 909 uncapped, and 45 Associate players.

Some of the prominent names to have reportedly set their base price at the highest of INR 2 crores are Harshal Patel, Shardul Thakur, Umesh Yadav, Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood, Travis Head, Josh Inglis, Mitchell Starc, Steve Smith, Mustafizur Rahman, Harry Brook, David Willey, Chris Woakes, Lockie Ferguson, and Gerald Coetzee.

A total of 77 slots are to be filled in this auction and 30 of those are overseas slots. The franchises have a collective Rs 262.95 crores to spend to add strength to their squads.

IPL teams announced their player retention and releases by the deadline of 26 November. However, teams can still trade players until 12 December, a week before the mini-auction.

The BCCI and IPL Governing Council will decide the dates for the IPL 2024 after Election Commission of India (ECI) declares the polling schedule for the Lok Sabha elections next year.
