The list of retained and released players ahead of the IPL 2024 auction was announced on November 26, 2023. The IPL 2024 auction will take place in Dubai on December 19.
The BCCI had set the deadline for the franchises to submit their final list of retained and released players on November 26, which was the last date for the trade window to happen. Thus far only a few trades have happened.
West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd was traded from Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) to Mumbai Indians (MI). Rajasthan Royals (RR) and LSG swapped opener Devdutt Padikkal for Avesh Khan. And then Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) traded Shahbaz Ahmed to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) for Mayank Dagar.

The Kolkata Knight Riders released Tim Southee, Lockie Ferguson, Shakib Al Hasan, and Litton Das as expected. One of their big money releases was Shardul Thakur, who was traded by KKR for more than INR 10 crores. Apart from these names, veteran players like Mandeep Singh and Umesh Yadav were also released.
Coming to SRH, they released their most expensive player Harry Brook of England. His teammate Adil Rashid and West Indies all-rounder Akeal Hossein were also released. SRH chose to retain their core of Aiden Markram, Rahul Tripathi, Mayank Agarwal, Glenn Phillips, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, and Umran Malik and also brought in Shahbaz Ahmed from RCB.
