Ricky Ponting to remain DC head coach for next IPL season, hints co-owner Parth Jindal

Delhi Capitals endured a dismal IPL 2023 campaign.

Sourav Ganguly and Ricky Ponting | BCCI-IPLDelhi Capitals (DC) endured a dismal Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 campaign. The David Warner-led side managed to win only five out of their 14 league matches and finished the season at the ninth spot in the 10-team points table.

After the debacle, there were speculations that Ricky Ponting will be sacked as DC’s head coach and Sourav Ganguly will replace him in the key role.

However, DC co-owner Parth Jindal on Wednesday (June 14) put all the speculations to rest, saying that preparation for the next season is underway with both Ponting and Ganguly at the helm of affairs.

Taking to Twitter, Jindal wrote: “Preparations for next years @IPL are underway here @DelhiCapitals, along side @SGanguly99 and @RickyPonting we assure the fans that Kiran and I are working hard to get back to where we want this franchise to be and that is right at the very top.”

Notably, Ponting is associated with DC as head coach since 2018 while Ganguly reunited with the Capitals this season as the Director of Cricket. The former India skipper previously worked as the mentor of the franchise in IPL 2019.

Under Ponting, Delhi Capitals performed exceptionally well in the 2019, 2020 and 2021 editions. While DC qualified for the playoffs for the first time in seven years in 2019, they made their maiden IPL final appearance in 2020. The Capitals also finished the league stage at the top in 2021.

However, the franchise hasn’t lived up to the expectations for the last couple of seasons, failing to qualify for the playoffs.
