IPL 2023: “Do remember what we did right and where we went wrong,” Dhoni’s message to CSK players after title win revealed

MS Dhoni led CSK to their fifth IPL title on May 29 in Ahmedabad.

MS Dhoni | BCCI-IPLChennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni has left a massive impact on the game with his leadership and performance in pressure situations over the years. Players from around the world aspire to play under his captaincy in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

On Monday (May 26), Dhoni led CSK to their fifth IPL title by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.

After the triumph, CSK all-rounder Shivam Dube revealed how Dhoni gave him a specific role in the final, which helped him thrive under pressure.

Dube scored 32 not out off 21 balls with two sixes as CSK chased down the revised target of 171 on the final delivery of their stipulated 15 overs.

“Mahi bhai gave me clarity of thought. He told me what my role is. It was simple tujhe jaake team ka run rate badhana hai. (You have to increase the run rate). Even if I get out early no problem but try to complete the task given. The brief was clear," Dube told The Indian Express.

CSK pacer Tushar Deshpande finished the IPL 2023 season as CSK’s leading wicket-taker with 21 scalps to his name.

Deshpande revealed how Dhoni backed him after he conceded 56 runs in his four overs in the final.

“Once I didn’t bowl well, he came and said that with the new impact rule, 200 plus score is the new normal and he told me don’t worry about my place. He gave the surety which is what (young) players want," he said while speaking to The Indian Express.

Recalling the CSK captain’s message to his player, Deshpande said he told everyone in the dressing room to reflect what went right and what went wrong during the IPL 2023 season.

“He told everyone hard work is paid off, but do remember what we did right this year and where we went wrong. Mahi bhai said, ‘Yeh season tumko kya seekha ke gaya hai, aur aage kya karna hai, yeh zaroor sochna’," revealed the pacer.
