IPL 2023: “Those are the moments that you’ll remember,” Styris on MS Dhoni lifting Ravindra Jadeja after CSK’s title win

CSK bagged the IPL 2023 title by defeating GT in the final.

MS Dhoni lifting Ravindra Jadeja after CSK's IPL 2023 triumph | BCCI-IPLChennai Super Kings (CSK) bagged the IPL 2023 title on Monday (May 29) by defeating Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.

In a rain-marred affair, all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja stepped up to the plate to script CSK’s narrow five-wicket victory via DLS method.

Chasing the revised target of 171 in 15 overs, the Super Kings were at 149/5 when Jadeja arrived in the middle. Amid the pressure situation, the southpaw held his nerves and played a match-winning cameo of 15* in just 6 balls, hitting Mohit Sharma’s last two deliveries for a six and a boundary to seal the deal for CSK.

After Jadeja hit the winning runs, CSK skipper MS Dhoni lifted him quite passionately and former New Zealand all-rounder Scott Styris feels it was a moment to remember.

“He often hangs back and lets the youngsters enjoy the moment after winning the title. But he was out there in the middle; he might not be sprinting out there with a sore knee. But he was there waiting to lift Jadeja after he hit the winning runs. Those are the moments that you’ll remember,” said Styris while speaking to Star Sports.

Styris also lauded all-rounder Shivam Dube for turning the game in CSK’s favour by smashing GT spinner Rashid Khan for back-to-back sixes. In the end, Dube stayed unbeaten on 32 off 21 balls.

“The game changed when Dube went back-to-back sixes. And the next over started, 6, 4, 6 against Mohit Sharma and at that moment CSK dragged themselves back in the game, it was GT’s game to win up to that point,” Styris added.

This was CSK’s fifth IPL title win as they levelled with Mumbai Indians to become the most successful team in the competition.
