It was an amazing early morning for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on May 30 as they defeated Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final of the IPL 2023 on the reserve day, which was also delayed by rain interruption and became the five-time champions.
They equaled Mumbai Indians’ record for most IPL titles. They chased down the DLS revised target of 171 runs in 15 overs, despite the best efforts of the GT bowlers who kept picking wickets at regular intervals.
But 47 from Devon Conway, and cameos from Ruturaj Gaikwad (26), Ajinkya Rahane (27 in 13 balls), and Ambati Rayudu (19 off 8 balls) kept them in the game. Shivam Dube with 32* and Ravindra Jadeja hit a six and a four off the last two balls of the 15th over when 10 runs were needed to win the final and the title for Chennai Super Kings.
After the match, the CSK dugout and their family members swarmed the field, and MS Dhoni was approached for autographs and one of them was Deepak Chahar.
However, as the CSK pacer went to his captain for a signature, the legendary wicketkeeper-batter denied it straight away. He was seen backing off and telling off Chahar who had a marker with him and asking Dhoni to sign on his jersey, while he was conversing with BCCI vice-president Rajiv Shukla.
After multiple denials, the CSK skipper finally agreed to sign his shirt.

Dhoni’s gestures were hilarious and this wasn’t the first time he mocked Chahar on the field. He spent quite some time tormenting the pacer on the field, once wielding his willow near him in the dugout and once smacking him on the back of his head while walking off after toss.
However, this particular incident must have been because Chahar had dropped Shubman Gill in the second over off Tushar Deshpande in what was a dolly catch.
