IPL 2023: List of all the award winners on the night of the IPL 16 final

Shubman Gill won the Orange Cap for most runs and Mohammad Shami won the Purple Cap for most wickets.

Shubman Gill and Mohammad Shami | BCCI-IPLMS Dhoni completed a fairytale run in the IPL 2023 after the showing in the last season by winning the fifth IPL title by defeating the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 30, 2023.

GT posted 214/4 in 20 overs after CSK captain MS Dhoni won the toss and chose to bowl first. Wriddhiman Saha’s 54 and Sai Sudharsan’s 96 were the cornerstones of the GT’s huge final total. Shubman Gill (39) and Hardik Pandya (21*) also played cameos which contributed to the final total.

In reply, CSK needed 171 runs in 15 overs as a revised target due to a 2-hour rain delay. Openers Devon Conway (47) and Ruturaj Gaikwad (26) added 74 runs in 6.3 overs. Then cameos from Ajinkya Rahane (27) and Ambati Rayudu (19) kept CSK on the path.

Shivam Dube (32*) and Ravindra Jadeja (15*) then took the MS Dhoni-led side home on the last ball of the 15th over and won the game by 5 wickets via DLS method.

This also meant that CSK became the five-time IPL champions and equaled the record for most IPL title wins by Mumbai Indians.

Emerging Player of the Tournament: Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR) was named the Emerging Player of the IPL 2023 as the youngster had a breakthrough season with 625 runs in 14 matches with five half-centuries and one century. His highest score was 124 against MI and he also hit the fastest-ever half-century in IPL history off 13 balls.

Purple Cap for Most Wickets in the season: Mohammad Shami (GT) got this award for his 28 wickets in 17 matches with a best of 4/11 and an economy of 8.03. He beat out competition from his GT teammates Rashid Khan and Mohit Sharma, both of whom finished with 27 scalps.

Orange Cap for Most Runs in the season: Shubman Gill (GT) won this award for his 890 runs in 17 matches with 3 centuries and 4 fifties to his name at an average of 59.33 and strike-rate of 157.83. This is the second-most runs ever in an IPL season and Shubman Gill was only the 4th batter to hit back-to-back centuries in an IPL season.
