IPL 2023: Sachin Tendulkar terms Shubman Gill’s performance in IPL 16 ‘unforgettable’ as he previews CSK v GT final

Tendulkar also talked about the MI's performance against GT in Qualifier 1.

Shubman Gill | BCCI-IPLIndia and Mumbai Indians legend Sachin Tendulkar has lauded young Gujarat Titans opener Shubman Gill for his tremendous performance in the ongoing IPL 2023 season.

Gill, who was picked by the GT franchise ahead of the IPL 2022 auction, has been a revelation this season. He has the most runs in IPL 2023- 851 runs in 16 matches with 3 centuries and five fifties to his name.

He is only the second Indian to cross 800 runs or more in one IPL season and was the fourth batter to score two consecutive centuries. He is also only the third batter after Virat Kohli and Jos Buttler with three or more centuries in one IPL season.

MI legend Sachin Tendulkar was all praises for Shubman Gill as he previewed the upcoming IPL 2023 final between Gujarat Titans (GT) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He said that the right-handed opener’s performance has been unforgettable this season.

Shubman Gill's performance this season has been nothing short of unforgettable, marked by two centuries that left an indelible impact. One century ignited Mumbai Indians' hopes, while the other dealt them a crushing blow.

Such is the unpredictable nature of cricket! What truly impressed me about Shubman's batting was his remarkable temperament, unwavering calmness, hunger for runs, and astute running between the wickets. In high-scoring encounters, there are always decisive moments that shape the outcome, and Shubman's exceptional acceleration from the 12th over onwards propelled Gujarat Titans to a monumental total,” Sachin Tendulkar tweeted.

He also said that MI had a chance till Tilak Varma and Suryakumar Yadav were at the crease in Qualifier 2 of the tournament in Ahmedabad, despite them chasing 233 runs to win.

It was a display of his capacity to seize the momentum and make a profound impact on the game. Likewise, Mumbai briefly got back into the game with @TilakV9’s blistering 24 runs against @MdShami11 and was alive till @surya_14kumar got out,’” he added.

He then had a few words to say about the upcoming CSK v GT final in Ahmedabad on May 28. He said that GT is a formidable team with Shubman Gill, Hardik Pandya, and David Miller posing a huge threat to CSK.

He also spoke about the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings saying that they also bat deep with the skipper himself coming in at no.8. He ended by saying that the final will be an exciting one.

Gujarat is a formidable side and the wickets of  @ShubmanGill, @hardikpandya7 & @DavidMillerSA12 will be key for Chennai tonight. @ChennaiIPL also bat deep with @msdhoni coming in as low as number 8, hence it could be a case of one team out-batting the other. It’s going to be an interesting Final to watch,” Tendulkar signed off.
