Lucknow Super Giants' (LSG) eventful IPL 2023 came to an end in a rather anticlimax after they were crushed by 81 runs in the Eliminator match by Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Chepauk Stadium on May 24.
Set 183 to win, LSG batters couldn’t come to terms with the Chennai wicket as they were bowled out for 101, with Akash Madhwal picking 5/5. Earlier MI had posted 182/6 in 20 overs, with Cameron Green (41), Suryakumar Yadav (33), Tilak Varma (26), and Nehal Wadhera (23) being the major contributors. For LSG, Naveen Ul Haq starred with 4/38.
However, the franchise had to take some big steps on Twitter to keep their account from being spammed by ‘Mangoes’ references. Naveen had earlier celebrated his wickets by shutting his ears. This led to trolls swamping them with Mangoes.
The franchise on Thursday posted on their Twitter handle that they had taken a few measures to shield themselves from the trolling.
“Issued in our interest,” it said in the post along with a screenshot of the terms that they have blocked from their Twitter mentions.
The “mangoes” can be traced back to when Naveen had posted a photo of a mango with a clip of Piyush Chawla during MI v RCB game. And then again when RCB lost that game.
However, the Rajasthan Royals Twitter account, known to be the funniest one in IPL, took a sly dig at LSG with a post of their own, as they shared a graphic of Akash Madhwal’s bowling analysis of 5/5, with the wickets being denoted by mango emoji.
Apart from them, even food delivery apps Swiggy and Zomato also jumped into the fray with their own tweets about mango.
