IPL 2023: DCW asks Delhi police to file FIR after Shubman Gill’s sister Shahneel faced online abuse post RCB v GT tie

Shubman with sister Shahneel | InstagramThe Delhi Commission for Women took Suo-moto cognizance of abuse faced on social media by cricketer Shubman Gill’s sister Shahneel after the RCB v GT IPL 2023 match and on Wednesday, issued a notice to Delhi Police and sought registration of an FIR.

The DCW also asked Delhi Police to submit a detailed action taken report by May 26.

Gill’s sister received vile threats and abuse after Shubman’s 104* triumphed over Virat Kohli’s 101* in the last league match of IPL 2023, leading to GT winning the match and eliminating RCB out of playoffs race.

Shahneel is popular on Instagram, with about 1.10 lakh followers. Since Sunday, she has been the target of several abusive remarks, particularly regarding her Instagram post following the match.

On Monday, DCW chief Swati Maliwal hit back at those trolling Gill's sister on social media. She said action would be taken against those abusing the Indian batsman's sister.

She had tweeted: "Extremely shameful to see trollers abusing #ShubhmanGill's sister just because the team they follow lost a match. Previously we had initiated action against people abusing #ViratKohli's daughter. DCW will take action against all those who have abused Gill's sister as well. This shall not be tolerated!"
