Gujarat Titans (GT) opener Shubman Gill continued his purple patch in the IPL 2023, scoring his second successive hundred on Sunday against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). His ton helped GT defeat RCB by 6 wickets and also knocked them out of the tournament.
Earlier, thanks to a successive second century by Virat Kohli (101*), RCB posted 197/5 in 20 overs. In reply, Vijay Shankar’s fifty and Gill’s 104*, GT reached the target with five balls and 6 wickets to spare. This resulted in RCB being knocked out of the IPL 2023 playoffs race and instead MI qualifying as they had beaten SRH earlier in the day.
While wins and losses are part of the sport, a section of fans didn't take RCB's loss well and started to abuse Gill on social media.
However, things got ugly as some fans shared social media accounts of his sister Shahneel and she was also the victim of vile abuse on internet.
"What a wholesum day," Gill's sister Shahneel wrote on Insta while sharing a few pictures from the match.
A number of fans wrote hateful comments on the post for both Shahneel and Shubman.
Seeing the lewd comments for Gill and his sister, many fans took to Twitter and slammed those hurling abuse.
