IPL 2023: WATCH- Shimron Hetmyer teases Sam Curran after hitting him for a four; refuses to divulge details later

Hetmyer and Curran engaged in war of words.

Sam Curran and Shimron Hetmyer | TwitterShimron Hetmyer demonstrated his value for the Rajasthan Royals once more on Friday (May 19), in Dharamshala when he produced a quickfire innings of 46 runs from only 28 balls during Match No. 66 of the IPL 2023 to assist RR in chasing down the goal of 188 runs in 19.4 overs for the loss of six wickets.

RR’s chase was shouldered by Devdutt Padikkal and Yashasvi Jaiswal, who hit fifties, while Hetmyer came out to bat at No. 5 after skipper Sanju Samson’s dismissal. He smashed 3 sixes and 4 fours in his knock of 46 runs.

The on-field umpire ruled Hetmyer out on the fifth ball of 17th over bowled by Sam Curran during PBKS' innings. Thanks to DRS, Hetmyer was able to survive that call.

Following that, Curran and Hetmyer got into a verbal altercation, which lasted until Curran was called upon to bowl his final over of the spell in the 19th over of the innings.

Hetmyer hammered him for two fours (on the 1st and 4th balls), and after his first boundary, he mocked Curran while completing the run despite the ball crossing the boundary and he ran in front of the England all-rounder.

IPL 2023: “It's a bit shocking to see where we stand on the table,” Sanju Samson reflects on RR’s IPL 16 campaign

However, Curran had the last laugh when he dismissed Hetmyer for 46 (28) in the over.

Speaking about the heated exchange in the middle, Hetmyer said a bit of needling does help him get fired up. The West Indies hitter claimed that it was one of those really rare days when he engaged in sledging with a rival.

"It's always good to have someone say something to me, it doesn't really happen much. I really enjoyed it today, giving me a little bit more confidence and a little bit more energy to execute and do what I need to do.

Not anything I can disclose here, to be honest,” Hetmyer said with a grin on his face in post-match interaction.

Rajasthan moved to 14 points in the points table and remained in the 5th spot. Rajasthan will hope RCB and Mumbai Indians lose their last match to sneak through into the top 4. Mumbai Indians take on Sunrisers Hyderabad in Mumbai while RCB host Gujarat Titans in Bengaluru on May 21.
