Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) completed an 8-wicket over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Hyderabad on Thursday (May 18) to keep their campaign on track and their destiny in their own hands.
Former captain Virat Kohli brought out some of his vintage shots to score his sixth IPL hundred, and in partnership with current captain Faf du Plessis (71), added 172 for the first wicket, while chasing the target of 187.
Kohli brought up his ton off 63 balls with his fourth six, apart from 12 sublime boundaries, as he registered three figures in the IPL for the first time since 2019. He has scored 538 runs in 13 matches with one century and six half-centuries in the ongoing IPL 2023 season.
His innings even overshadowed another hundred in the same match by SRH's Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 104 off 51 balls to help his team put up a competitive target of 187, which eventually proved to be not enough for the visitors.

After the match, SRH's youngsters approached Kohli for autographs and he obliged them all happily as he signed the memorabilia. His aura is such that even his opponents can't help but marvel at what he brings to the field at his best.
RCB will in all likelihood need to beat table-toppers Gujarat Titans in their last league match to qualify for the playoffs, though certain other results going in their favour could also mean they go through despite a defeat on better net run-rate.
