IPL 2023: “If Dada is given responsibility…,” Irfan Pathan suggests DC to appoint Sourav Ganguly as head coach

Ganguly is currently associated with the Delhi-based franchise as Director of Cricket.

Sourav Ganguly | Delhi Capitals/TwitterFormer India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has suggested Delhi Capitals to hand over the head coach role to Sourav Ganguly for the next season of IPL.

Pathan’s comment comes amid the dismal run of the franchise in IPL 2023 under Ricky Ponting’s stint as chief coach.

Notably, Ganguly had served DC as a mentor in IPL 2019 and he is currently associated with the franchise as Director of Cricket.

"Sourav Ganguly's presence in the Delhi dugout is a big deal. I think if Dada is given the responsibility of coach as well, he can make a big difference in this team,” Pathan said on Star Sports.

The IPL 2023 season has been a disaster for the Capitals as they occupy the last spot in the 10-team standings, with 8 points from 12 games. With two league matches still remaining, they are already out of the playoffs race.

According to Irfan Pathan, the former BCCI President understands the psychology of the Indian players and knows how to run the dressing room.

“Dada has knowledge of the psychology of Indian players. He knows how to run the dressing room and Delhi should definitely take advantage of that. At the time of the toss, Warner has said that his team has now started preparing for the next season and in this context, it would not be wrong to see Ganguly in a changed role," Pathan added.

Delhi Capitals will take on Punjab Kings and Chennai Super Kings in their last two league matches on May 17 and May 20, respectively.
