IPL 2023: “My father got discharged from ICU yesterday, I did it for him,” Mohsin Khan after match-winning last over vs MI

The left-arm pacer conceded only 5 runs while defending 11 in the final over.

Mohsin Khan | BCCI-IPLMohsin Khan produced a fantastic last over to ensure Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) five-run victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) at Ekana Cricket Stadium on Tuesday (May 16).

The left-arm pacer, who recovered after a long injury layoffs, was tasked to defend 11 runs in the final over. He delivered in style, nailing yorker after yorker to concede just 5 runs despite bowling against the rampaging Tim David (32* off 19) and Cameron Green (4*).

Mohsin eventually returned with the figures of 1 for 26 in his three overs as LSG defended their total of 177/3 by restricting MI to 172/5.

Speaking to the broadcasters after the game, Mohsin said: “The plan was to execute what I did in practice and I executed. Even Krunal was talking to me and I told him the same.”

“The run-up is the same, did not change it in the last over. I was trying to calm myself down, not look at the scoreboard and bowl the 6 balls well. Since the wicket was gripping, I tried the slower ball, but I bowled two of those and then changed to the yorker and it was reversing as well,” he added.

Mohsin Khan further stated that the condition of his sick father was playing in the back of his mind and hoped that his father was proud of his effort.

“Been a tough time as I was injured, playing after a year. My father got discharged from the ICU yesterday and he was in the hospital for the last 10 days and I did it for him, he would have been watching,” he remarked.

“I'm grateful to the team and the support staff, Gautam [Gambhir] sir, Vijay [Dahiya] sir for playing me this game even though I did not do well last game,” Mohsin concluded.

With this victory, LSG attained the third spot on the points table. They will need to win their last league match against KKR on Saturday (May 20) to ensure a spot in the IPL 2023 playoffs.
