Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni might bring down the curtains on his professional cricket career with the conclusion of IPL 2023.
It is because of this speculation that Dhoni has been receiving rousing reception from the fans every time he steps on the field. Be it the Chinnaswamy, Eden Gardens or Wankhede, the chants of 'Dhoni Dhoni' have echoed in all venues.
Talking about CSK’s home ground Chepauk, fans have occupied stands in large numbers just to see Dhoni’s practice session.
On Sunday (May 14), CSK played their final home game in IPL 2023 against KKR and the crowd went bonkers while cheering for their beloved captain.
After the game, Doni and his men also took a lap of honour around the ground to thank the fans for their constant support.
While the players were taking the lap of honour, Indian batting legend Sunil Gavaskar rushed towards Dhoni and asked him to sign his shirt, a gesture that touched the hearts of millions.
In a video posted by Star Sports on Twitter, Gavaskar on Tuesday (May 16) revealed why he decided to get Dhoni's autograph.
"I decided to create a special memory When I got to know about MS Dhoni's lap of honour. That's why I ran towards MSD to take his autograph. It was his last home game at Chepauk. Of course, he will get a chance to play here if CSK qualifies for the playoffs. But I decided to make that moment special. I was fortunate enough that someone in the camera unit had a marker pen. So, I am thankful to that person as well," Gavaskar said in the video.
"So, I went to Mahi and requested him to sign an autograph on the shirt that I was wearing. It was so nice of him to acknowledge it. It was a very emotional moment for me because this fellow has made immense contributions to Indian Cricket," he explained.
Sunil Gavaskar revealed a wish for his 'final moments', which also involved MS Dhoni.
"Kapil Dev lifting the 1983 World Cup Trophy and MS Dhoni hitting that winning six in the 2011 World Cup final are the two cricketing moments I would love to see before I die," he said.
