Shubman Gill starred with the bat in Gujarat Titans’ (GT) comprehensive 34-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday (May 15).
Opening the innings, Gill slammed 101 off 57 balls, helping his team pile up a massive 188/9 on the board. His maiden IPL hundred was studded with 13 fours and 1 six.
After the game, Shubman described his six off "childhood friend" Abhishek Sharma as the most pleasing stroke of his stunning knock.
Gill also revealed that he had told Abhishek before the match that if the SRH all-rounder bowls, he will smash him for a six.
“The six off Abhishek Sharma was the most pleasing thing for me. I told him that if you bowl to me I'm gonna hit you for a six,” Gill said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Shubman Gill is currently at the second spot in the list of highest run-getter with 576 runs from 13 innings, including one ton and four half-centuries. He has made his runs at an impressive strike rate of 146.19.
“I made my IPL debut against SRH and got my first hundred against them, so life has come a full circle. Hopefully many more to come. It's all about the bowlers and situation and I don't dwell much on my last innings. It is important to focus on the situation in front,” he added.
Coming to the match, GT restricted SRH to 154/9 while defending the total. Mohammad Shami (4-20) and Mohit Sharma (4-28) starred with the ball for the Titans, picking up four scalps each.
With this victory, Gujarat Titans became the first team to qualify for the IPL 2023 playoffs. They will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league match at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (May 21).
