IPL 2023: “Gujarat mein hoon, mera khana nahi milega na,” Shami’s hilarious response leaves Shastri in splits

Shami returned with the figures of 4/21 in his four overs against SRH.

Mohammad Shami | BCCI-IPLIt is not a secret that Indian fast bowler Mohammad Shami is fond of biryani. However, he is missing it in Ahmedabad while playing for Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2023.

Shami starred with the ball in GT’s 34-run victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday (May 16). The right-arm quick returned with the figures of 4/21 in his four overs, helping GT qualify for the playoffs.

In the post-match interview, former India head coach-turned-commentator Ravi Shastri asked Shami what he eats.

To which, the pacer replied: "Gujarat mein hoon, mera khana nahi milega na (I'm in Gujarat, so will not get what I want)." Shami’s response left Shastri in splits.

Talking about his spell, Mohammad Shami said he just bowled to his strengths and on good lines.

"I've been focusing on hitting the ball into the pitch, bowl to my strengths and on good lines. I've been trying to hit similar lines and make use of the new ball. That's always given me success. The wicket was the same as that in the last game. Mohit coming in has helped go well in the middle overs, given we have Rashid and Noor as well," Shami said.

Coming to the match, the defending champions piled up 188/9 on the board on the back of opener Shubman Gill’s maiden IPL hundred (101 off 58 balls).

Defending the total, GT restricted SRH to 154/9. Besides Shami, medium-pacer Mohit Sharma also bowled exceptionally well, finishing with the figures of 4 for 28 in his four overs.

Gujarat Titans will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in their last league match at Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (May 21).
