The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered a massive dent in their playoff hopes in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) as they went down to the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by seven wickets on Saturday, May 13.

Batting first, the home side made 182/6 even though none of their batters crossed the 50-run mark. Heinrich Klaasen made 47, while Abdul Samad remained unbeaten on 37 for SRH.

In reply, Prerak Mankad made 64*, while Marcus Stoinis made 40 and Nicholas Pooran smashed 44* in 13 balls to take LSG past the finish line and keep their hopes alive for the playoffs.

However, during the SRH innings, commentator Scott Styris touched upon a massive mistake that the Aiden Markram-led side made with respect to their team sheet.

With the rule of finalizing playing XIs after the toss being introduced in this IPL 2023, each captain comes out with two team sheets with them. One which has the combination where they bat first and another where they bowl first.

Now Styris explained that batting all-rounder Sanvir Singh was supposed to make his debut for SRH against LSG, but in the team sheet SRH submitted to the match referee, Sanvir’s name was scratched off and in his place T Natarajan’s name was included in the playing XI, with Sanvir being relegated to impact subs.

Now, it was explained that SRH possibly scratched the name out on the wrong sheet and then submitted it as a mistake given that they omitted a batter despite batting first and added a bowler to their XI. Styris said that unless they sub out a batter, they might not be able to bring in a bowler.

Meanwhile when SRH came to defend their total vs LSG, their impact sub was Vivrant Singh who replaced opener Anmolpreet Singh.
