Punjab Kings (PBKS) skipper Shikhar Dhawan on Saturday (May 13) heaped praise on opener Prabhsimran Singh for his maiden IPL century in the match against Delhi Capitals (DC) at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday (May 13).
Prabhsimran waged a lone battle with the bat for PBKS, slamming 103 off 65 balls to propel his team to 167/7 in 20 overs.
Defending the total, Harpreet Brar (4-30), Rahul Chahar (2-16) and Nathan Ellis (2-26) ran through the DC batting line-up and restricted them to 136/8.
“It was a brilliant knock from Prabhsimran Singh. It was turning from the fourth over and I rate that knock very high. The way he played some of the shots to the slow spinners was superb,” said Dhawan at the post-match presentation ceremony.
The Punjab captain also credited the spin duo of Harpreet and Chahar for pulling things back for his side. Notably, the Capitals got off to a fantastic start in the chase as the duo of David Warner (54 off 27) and Philip Salt (21 off 17) added 69 runs for the opening wicket.
“I was thinking where the match was going. And the way the boys brought the game back was amazing. All the credit goes to the two young spinners. Brar did a great job. It was wonderful to see him picking the wickets of the left-handers,” Dhawan added.
Punjab Kings are currently occupying the sixth spot in the 10-team standings, carrying 12 points from as many matches.
The PBKS captain is impressed with the performance of his young players and hoped that the team will do well in the remaining matches.
“I am still young Harsha (chuckles). Yeah, I stay young with those young boys and it has been a wonderful journey. They are growing well and have taken the responsibility. Especially the way Rahul Chahar has bowled not only tonight as it was a turning track. Hoping that we will do well in the remaining couple of matches,” Dhawan remarked.
Punjab Kings will face Delhi Capitals once again in their next encounter at HPCA Stadium in Dharamshala on May 17.
