IPL 2023: “Disappointed with the crowd and their behavior”- Heinrich Klaasen on disruption in play; slams TV umpire's decision

Klaasen made 47 runs in 29 balls with 3 fours and as many sixes.

A no-ball started quite a furor in Hyderabad crowd | TwitterSunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter-keeper Heinrich Klaasen was unhappy with the way the Hyderabad crowd reacted to the TV umpire’s decision in their IPL 2023 match against Lucknow Super Giants (SRH) on May 13.

SRH captain Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first. Yudhvir Singh dismissed Abhishek Sharma for 7 runs. Rahul Tripathi contributed later on, scoring 20 runs off of 13 deliveries, but, like in most games, the flamboyant hitter was unable to keep up with the beginning.

Anmolpreet Singh, the club's opener, got the team off to a great start, but sadly, the spinner Amit Mishra defeated him when he was batting on 36 runs off 27 deliveries.

Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram then tried to stabilize the SRH innings, with the captain getting 28 and looking good.

Heinrich Klaasen's 47 in 29 balls and Abdul Samad's 37*, though, helped SRH score 182/6 in 20 overs.

The SRH innings wasn’t without its drama. In the 19th over, a high full toss by Avesh Khan was called no-ball by the on-field umpire which SRH batter Abdul Samad inside-edged for a single.

LSG though reviewed the decision and strangely, the TV umpire adjudged the delivery as fair reasoning that the batter was slightly crouched while facing the delivery which the ball-tracker predicted would have gone well over the stumps.

This led to the Hyderabad crowd getting rowdy and led to crowd troubles in Hyderabad as the LSG dugout complained that an object was thrown at them. The play was halted for five minutes or so as authorities and police brought things under control.

Speaking at the mid-innings break, Klaasen said he was disappointed with the crowd’s behavior, while adding that the break completely broke the momentum they had.

Disappointed with the crowd and their behavior. Not a great umpiring decision and one has got to move on from it. That break in play broke the momentum completely I feel. Happens, but I think we have got the runs on the board,” said Klaasen.

He went on to say that the wicket changed in the middle, adding that Krunal Pandya’s two rippers to get Aiden Markram and Glenn Phillips in back-to-back deliveries change the momentum of the game.

Yes, the wicket changed quickly in the middle. There is spin and bounce. Two rippers broke the momentum. The wicket is starting to turn and the hard lengths are not easy to hit. Slower ball bouncers and into the wicket. Too full could go the distance. It's a little slow but not bad wicket. Spinners will have a role to play with its natural variation,” Klaasen added.
