IPL 2023: Cricket fraternity reacts as Mankad and Pooran keep LSG’s playoffs dream alive; defeat SRH by 7 wickets

SRH's Abhishek Sharma going for 5 sixes in one over changed the course of the match.

Krunal Pandya | BCCI-IPLThe Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clashed with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 58th match of the IPL 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on May 13. SRH captain Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first.

SRH brought in Fazalhaq Farooqui for Marco Jansen. On the other hand, Yudhvir Singh and Prerak Mankad came in for Mohsin Khan and Deepak Hooda for LSG.

Abhishek Sharma was dismissed by Yudhvir Singh for 7 runs. Rahul Tripathi made a decent contribution, scoring 20 runs off 13 balls, but, as in most games, the flashy batter was unable to match the early success.

Anmolpreet Singh, the team's opener, had things going for the team well, but he was unfortunately caught and bowled by the spinner Amit Mishra while he was 36 runs off 27 deliveries.

The SRH innings were then attempted to be stabilized by Heinrich Klaasen and Aiden Markram, with the captain scoring 28 and looking well. But then Krunal Pandya removed Klaasen and Glenn Phillips in consecutive balls to hurt SRH.

However, Abdul Samad's 37* and Heinrich Klaasen's 47 in 29 balls enabled SRH total 182/6 in 20 overs.

In reply, despite losing Kyle Mayers early, Quinton de Kock (29 in 19) and Prerak Mankad repaired the innings a bit. But LSG were always behind the required rate. They needed 69 runs in last 30 balls and the match turned on its head in the 16th over.

SRH skipper Markram gambled on an extra over by a spinner, Abhishek Sharma and it proved to be pivotal. Marcus Stoinis hit the first 2 balls for sixes, but Abhishek got his wicket on the 3rd ball. But this brought out in-form Nicholas Pooran.

Pooran proceeded to belt out 3 more sixes in that over, which went for 31 runs, making LSG favorite to win.

And LSG romped home in the last over with Mankad holding the innings together with 64* in 45 balls, while Pooran made 44* in just 13 balls with 4 sixes and 3 fours, as they won the by 7 wickets.

Thanks to this win, LSG remain alive in playoffs race of IPL 2023 with 13 points from 12 games, while SRH remain at 9th with 8 points from 11 games.

The cricket fraternity reacted to a brilliant comeback win from LSG and praised the unit on Twitter.
