The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) clashed with Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the 58th match of the IPL 2023 at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad on May 13. LSG is 5th in IPL 16 points table, while SRH is 9th.
SRH captain Aiden Markram won the toss and chose to bat first. SRH brought in Fazalhaq Farooqui. On the other hand, Yudhvir Singh and Prerak Mankad came in for Mohsin Khan and Deepak Hooda for LSG.
SRH posted 182/6 in 20 overs thanks to Heinrich Klaasen's 47 in 29 balls and Abdul Samad's 37*, while Anmolpreet Singh contributed 36 at the top of the batting order. Krunal Pandya picked two wickets in two balls in one over and was the most successful LSG bowler.
However, the interesting contest was marred by crowd trouble, which led to the game being halted as well for a few minutes.
It all started in the 19th over when a high full toss by Avesh Khan was called no-ball by the on-field umpire which SRH batter Abdul Samad inside-edged for a single.
LSG though reviewed the decision and strangely, the TV umpire adjudged the delivery as fair reasoning that the batter was slightly crouched while facing the delivery which the ball-tracker predicted would have gone well over the stumps.
Samad and his batting partner Heinrich Klaasen weren’t happy with the latter chatting with the on-field umpire, expressing his frustration.
In the aftermath, the decision did not please the home crowd and led to crowd troubles in Hyderabad as the LSG dugout complained that an object was thrown at them.
The game was stopped for about five minutes before the issue was sorted with local police also getting involved in the stand behind where the Lucknow-based outfit were seated.
During the melee, videos surfaced on social media of the crowd behind the LSG dugout shouting “Kohli Kohli”, targeting the mentor of the team, Gautam Gambhir.
Everyone knows the ugly spat Gambhir and RCB batter Virat Kohli had after the LSG v RCB match in Lucknow and the crowd took full advantage of this and taunted the former India opener.
