IPL 2023: Suryakumar Yadav terms 103* against Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium as his best T20 innings

Suryakumar Yadav made a mockery of Gujarat Titans’ bowling attack at the Wankhede Stadium.

Suryakumar Yadav | BCCI-IPLMumbai Indians (MI) batter Suryakumar Yadav on Friday (May 13) made a mockery of Gujarat Titans’ (GT) bowling attack in Match 57 of IPL 2023 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Batting at No. 3, the dashing right-hander displayed his wide array of strokes to smash 103 not out off 49 balls, helping MI post a mammoth 218/5 on the board.

Suryakumar’s knock was laced with 11 fours and 6 sixes and he deservingly won the Player-of-the-Match award.

After the game, Suryakumar Yadav said his maiden IPL hundred was his best knock in the shortest format of the game. He has four T20I hundreds to his name as well.

"Can say that (my best T20 innings). Whenever I get runs I think the team should win," he stated at the post-match presentation ceremony.

"Most importantly we batted first today and said that we would keep the same tempo when you are chasing 200-220. There was a lot of dew on the ground, it was there from the 7-8th over and I knew what shots to play," he added.

“I was not thinking about hitting straight, I had two shots in the mind - one over fine leg and one over third man. There is lots and lots of practice before the game, so when I come into the game I am very clear and just go express myself,” he continued.

Defending the huge total, MI bowlers reduced GT to 55/5 but they lost the plot as Rashid Khan went on to play a breathtaking knock of 32-ball 79*, taking the defending champions to 191/8 in 20 overs.

Akash Madhwal (3-31), Piyush Chawla (2-36), Kumar Kartikeya (2-37) and Jason Behrendorff (1-37) were among the wickets for the hosts.

With this victory, Mumbai Indians jumped from No. 4 to No. 3 with 14 points in 12 matches to boost their playoffs chances.
