IPL 2023: “He is one of the best in modern-era,” Faf du Plessis lauds Suryakumar Yadav after his brutal 83 vs RCB

Surya slammed 83 off 35 balls as MI overhauled the target of 200 in 16.3 overs.

Suryakumar Yadav | BCCI-IPLSuryakumar Yadav was at his breathtaking best in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) thumping six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday (May 9).

Batting at No. 3, Surya slammed 83 off 35 balls as MI overhauled the massive target of 200 with 21 deliveries to spare. His knock was studded with 7 fours and 6 sixes and he deservingly won the Player-of-the-Match award.

After the game, RCB skipper Faf du Plessis heaped praise on Suryakumar, stating that the latter can make opposition captains go grey as he has a range of strokes in his armoury.

"He is one of the best, isn't he? When he gets going, he is really difficult to bowl to. He makes a captain extremely grey, he has got so many options. You feel like you can't really shut him down. That's why he is one of the best in the modern-era," Du Plessis said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Faf du Plessis also expressed his disappointment at RCB's failure to capitalise on a stunning partnership between himself and Glenn Maxwell.

Although RCB lost Virat Kohli (1) cheaply, Du Plessis (65 off 41) and Maxwell (68 off 33) added 120 runs for the third wicket to put the team in a commanding position.

However, the Bangalore-based franchise managed just 69 runs in the last 7 overs and only 6 runs in the final over to fail to post a score in excess of 200. While Dinesh Karthik played a cameo of 18-ball 30, there was no real contribution from the rest of the lower-middle order.

"I think at least 20, the context of the wickets so far this season, anything under 220 with MI's batting line-up. They are a strong side, they bat deep. We didn't capitalise on the last five overs, so very disappointed. We had to play the bluff card, say 200's a great score (at the half-way mark)," he added.

With this defeat, RCB dropped to No. 7 in the 10-team standings, carrying 10 points from 11 matches. They will next face Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on May 14.
