IPL 2023: “Very happy to win a home game like this,” says Suryakumar Yadav after whirlwind 83 against RCB

Suryakumar Yadav put on a show with the bat in MI's six-wicket win over RCB.

Suryakumar Yadav | BCCI-IPLSuryakumar Yadav put on a show with the bat in Mumbai Indians’ (MI) comprehensive six-wicket victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday (May 9).

Chasing 200 to win, MI got over the finishing line in just 16.3 overs, largely thanks to Suryakumar’s brutal 83 off just 35 balls. Nehal Wadhera (52* off 34) and Ishan Kishan (42 off 21) also chipped in with handy contributions with the bat.

Speaking after the game, Suryakumar said he tries to stick to his plans and not bring many changes to his game.

“Your practice has to be the same what you intend to do in matches. I know where my runs are. We have open net sessions. I know my game. I don't do anything different,” Yadav said in the post-match presentation ceremony.

Surya’s knock was studded with 7 fours and 6 sixes. He deservingly earned the Player-of-the-Match award for his whirlwind innings.

Suryakumar Yadav said that the RCB bowlers had their plans against him but he didn’t them dictate terms.

“Much needed from team's point of view. I am very happy to win a home game like this. I mean they come up with a plan. They tried to make me hit to the bigger part. Take the pace off and bowl slow. I said Nehal let's hit it hard and hit it into the gaps and run hard,” he added.

With this victory, Mumbai Indians moved to the third spot in the 10-team standings, carrying 12 points from 11 matches.

The Rohit Sharma-led side will next face defending champions Gujarat Titans on Friday (May 12) at the Wankhede Stadium.
