Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha starred with the bat in Gujarat Titans’ (GT) massive 56-run victory over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday (May 7).
Asked to bat first, the defending champions got off to a blistering start as Gill and Saha stitched 142-run stand in just 12.1 overs.
While Saha was dismissed for 43-ball 81 (10 fours and 4 sixes), Gill stayed unbeaten on 94 off 51 balls (2 fours and 7 sixes), propelling GT to a massive 227/2 in 20 overs.
After the game, Shubman shared his experience of opening alongside Saha, saying that it is fantastic and they share a very healthy bond.
“Saha is fantastic to bat with and have a bond. He's played from the first season, the way he maintains fitness and offers company is phenomenal,” Gill said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Defending the total, the Titans restricted LSG to 171/7. While the opening duo of Quinton de Kock (70 off 41) and Kyle Mayers (48 off 32) added 88 runs in just 8.2 overs for Lucknow, other batters failed to rise to the occasion.
Mohit Sharma starred with the ball for GT, returning with the figures of 4 for 29 in his four-over spell.
“Not technically an easy day as they did well in the power-play. But Mohit and the bowlers did well to restrict them,” Gill stated.
For his match-winning knock, Shubman Gill earned the Player-of-the-Match award. The stylish right-hander said that he has kept working on his skills to stay consistent in top-level cricket.
“It was important for me to wait for the opportunity, control yourself and not get carried away. Before this match, I think I hadn't scored a six in the last two games and this time I didn't hit a four till the 17th over so I try to keep working on my skills,” Gill remarked.
Gujarat Titans will next face Mumbai Indians on Friday (May 12) at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.
