Former England skipper Kevin Pietersen has suggested that IPL franchise Delhi Capitals (DC) should make an attempt to bring Virat Kohli back home to Delhi.
Pietersen’s suggestion came after DC’s IPL 2023 clash with Royal Challengers Bangalore at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday (May 6).
Kohli's family and his childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma were in attendance at the venue to watch him play his homecoming match. The former India skipper paid respect to his coach by touching his feet before the game.
Taking to Twitter, Pietersen asked DC to try and make a transfer to rope in Kohli. He also pointed out how the likes of Beckham, Ronaldo and Messi have all moved in their career.
“The wonderful footage of Virat saying hello to his childhood coach made me think…BRING VIRAT HOME! Delhi should make a huge transfer play and bring VIRAT back home from next season. Beckham, Ronaldo, Messi etc all moved in their career…,” Pietersen wrote.
Virat Kohli has been associated with RCB ever since the inception of IPL in 2008. He is the only player to play all the seasons for one franchise.
Kohli has also led RCB, although they failed to clinch the IPL title despite being favorites in multiple seasons. Currently, he is not the RCB captain, after quitting the role at the conclusion of 2021 season.
Kohli has played 233 IPL games for RCB, amassing 7043 runs at a strike rate of 129.49 with five hundreds and 50 half-centuries.
