While former India skipper MS Dhoni enjoys a huge fan following across the globe, his craze is on a different level among the cricket fans in Chennai. It has a lot to do with the fact that Dhoni has brought astonishing success for Chennai Super Kings (CSK) over the years, leading them to four IPL and two Champions League titles.
On Saturday (May 6), CSK hosted Mumbai Indians at the iconic MA Chidambaram Stadium and the crowd went bonkers while cheering for their beloved captain.
Chasing 140 to win, CSK were on the verge of victory when Devon Conway got out and Dhoni came out to bat in the 17th over.
On his arrival at the crease, Dhoni received a rousing reception from the Chepauk crowd. The capacity crowd made the loudest cheers possible for Thala.
Taking to Twitter, former CSK batter Suresh Raina shared a video, in which the fans can be seen going berserk as Dhoni made his way into the middle.
“Always the best feeling at #Chepauk when #Thala comes to bat @msdhoni,” Raina captioned the video.
Along with Shivam Dube (26* off 18), MS Dhoni completed the formalities and took CSK over the finishing line with six wickets in hand and 14 deliveries to spare.
The CSK captain hit the winning runs against Arshad Khan and stayed unbeaten on 2 off 3 balls.
