The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) vs Chennai Super Kings (CSK) IPL 2023 match which was being played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Wednesday, May 3, was called off due to heavy rains.
Earlier, CSK captain MS Dhoni had won the toss and chosen to bowl first. Dhoni said that CSK made only one change as Deepak Chahar was fully fit and was replacing Akash Singh in the XI. For LSG, Krunal Pandya was leading the side and revealed that Manan Vohra and Karan Sharma were brought into the side, and Mohsin Khan made his first appearance in the IPL this season.
LSG batters found it hard to counter the CSK spinners as Kyle Mayers made 14 and was out to Moeen Ali, while Manan Vohra was bowled by Maheesh Theekshana for 10 runs.
Krunal Pandya copped a golden duck on his IPL captaincy debut and Marcus Stoinis was bamboozled by Ravindra Jadeja.
At 44/5, Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran stablized the innings with Pooran falling for 20 runs, while Badoni completed his maiden IPL fifty and was on 59 in 33 balls with 4 sixes and 2 fours with LSG on 125/7 in 19.2 overs when rains came pouring in.
The ground was covered pretty quickly by the staff and after a few minutes, the rains subsided and the covers were taken off and the umpires were inspecting the play area.
However, suddenly the skies opened up again and the ground staff rushed to get the covers on once more and they surprisingly got some help from LSG fielding coach Jonty Rhodes, who rushed to help the groundsmen.
