IPL 2023: “What nonsense”- Ambati Rayudu rubbishes reports of his tweet being in response to Sunil Gavaskar’s comments

Gavaskar talked about how impact substitutes have not done well with the bat.

Ambati Rayudu | BCCI-IPLChennai Super Kings (CSK) batter Ambati Rayudu rubbished claims of his tweet about the ups and downs in life being in response to legendary Sunil Gavaskar’s remarks of players being unable to get going from the start with the bat coming in as impact substitutes.

Rayudu is having a forgettable outing in the IPL 2023 with him managing only 83 runs at an average of only 16.60, which his highest being an unbeaten knock of 27 runs.

On Thursday, in Chennai's away match against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur, Rayudu was once again used as an Impact Player, coming in place of pacer Akash Singh. However, his innings ended with a 2-ball duck as CSK went onto lose to RR by 32 runs.

While on commentary during the match, Sunil Gavaskar was talking about how impact substitutions are not working for the batters.

"You got to field. You can't just come out to bat and start hitting the ball. You can't do that. We have seen that with Prithvi Shaw. He has just been coming out to bat without success. No fielding, no scoring. Rayudu is out for a second-ball duck," Gavaskar said on commentary on Star Sports.

A day later, Rayudu took to Twitter to post a cryptic tweet on his outings in IPL 2023.

He posted: “In life and sport ups and downs are a constant part. We need to be positive and keeping working hard and things will turn around.. results are not always a measure of our effort. So always keeping smiling and enjoy the process.”

Now media felt that the tweet by the CSK batter was in response to Gavaskar’s comments on his failures as impact substitute for the MS Dhoni-led team.

However, after much rumors about the same in the media, Ambati Rayudu himself cleared the air on Twitter itself, saying that his tweet had nothing to do with his performance or his fielding and his remarks are well respected.

He said: “What nonsense… my tweet has nothing to do with the great mr Gavaskars comments.. his opinions are well respected and in regards to my fielding . A player doesn’t decide if he wants to field or not.
