Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) opener Jason Roy has been slapped with a fine for breaching the Indian Premier League (IPL) code of conduct during his team’s clash against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday (April 26).
Roy slammed 56 off 29 balls before Vijaykumar Vyshak got rid of him with a leg-stump yorker. After being dismissed, the right-hander hit one of the bails with his bat which was a violation of IPL code of conduct.
As a result, Jason Roy has been fined 10 per cent of his match fees. The KKR star also admitted to the Level 1 offence.
“Kolkata Knight Riders batter Jason Roy has been fined 10 percent of his match fee for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru," the IPL governing body released a statement.
“Mr. Roy admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," it added.
Article 2.2 of the IPL Code of Conduct states, “Abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a Match."
Coming to the match, KKR registered a comprehensive 21-run victory over RCB. The two-time IPL winners were on a losing streak of four successive games and they badly needed a win to get their campaign back on track.
In a crucial encounter, KKR players rose to the occasion to get the better of RCB. Asked to bat first, Kolkata posted 200/5 on the board with Jason Roy and skipper Nitish Rana (48 off 21) being the major contributors.
Defending the total, the visitors restricted the hosts to 179/8. Varun Chakaravarthy (3-27), Andre Russell (2-29) and Suyash Sharma (2-30) did the damage with the ball, sharing seven wickets among them.
