IPL 2023: Varun Chakaravarthy dedicates match-winning performance against RCB to his newborn son

Chakaravarthy returned with the figures of 3 for 27 in his four-over spell.

Varun Chakaravarthy | BCCI-IPLVarun Chakaravarthy starred with the ball in Kolkata Knight Riders’ (KKR) 21-run victory over Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Wednesday (April 26).

Asked to bat first, KKR piled up 200/5 on the board and then restricted the hosts to 179/8. Chakaravarthy was the wrecker-in-chief as he returned with the figures of 3 for 27 in his four-over spell.

The mystery spinner ran through RCB’s middle-order, dismissing Glenn Maxwell, Mahipal Lomror and Dinesh Karthik to earn the Player-of-the-Match award.

Speaking after the game, Chakaravarthy said the life of a bowler is funny in the Indian Premier League, citing that he was smashed for 49 runs in the last fixture against CSK.

"That's how the game of cricket is. Last match I went for 49 and today I got 3 wickets. That is life. More focused on my accuracy rather than variations. I don't want to add more variations but I want to be accurate.I want to like to credit AC Pratibhan and Abhishek Nayar as they have worked really hard with me," Chakaravarthy said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Before leaving the stage, Varun Chakaravarthy dedicated match-winning performance versus RCB to his newborn son.

"I would like to credit this to my newborn son. I haven't seen him yet but I want to thank him and my wife. I will go and meet him after the IPL," he concluded.

It was an important victory for the Knight Riders as they were on four-match losing streak. They will next face Gujarat Titans at the Eden Gardens on Saturday (April 29).
