IPL 2023: “Deserves a farewell tour around the country,” Styris wants Dhoni to clear air regarding his retirement

Speculations are rife that Dhoni will call time on his professional cricketer after the IPL 2023 season.

MS Dhoni | BCCI-IPLSpeculations are rife that Chennai Super Kings (CSK) skipper MS Dhoni will bring down the curtains on his professional cricket career with the conclusion of IPL 2023.

Amid the speculations, Dhoni has been receiving rousing reception from the fans every time he steps on the field. Be it the Chinnaswamy, Eden Gardens or the Wankhede, the chants of 'Dhoni Dhoni' have echoed in the stadiums.

Talking about CSK’s home ground Chepauk, fans are filling the stands in large numbers just to see Dhoni’s practice session.

While Dhoni is yet to clear the air in this regard, he has hinted during the post-match presentation ceremony that this could well be his last IPL season.

However, former New Zealand cricketer Scott Styris feels Dhoni should not keep it as a secret since he deserves a farewell tour around the country.

“I think he wouldn’t be playing now if he wasn’t in love of being in the dressing room. I hope that whenever he decides to hang up the bat, whether it’s now, or next season or many seasons later, that he announces it, because he deserves a farewell tour around the country,” Styris said while speaking to JioCinema.

He also lauded Dhoni's immense contribution to the sport. “He has been a great servant of Indian cricket and the IPL. This will give everyone a chance to show their appreciation to Dhoni for his contributions not just for Indian cricket but for world cricket as well,” Styris added.

Under MS Dhoni, Chennai Super Kings have won the IPL title four times. They are currently leading the IPL 2023 points table, having won five out of their seven matches.
