Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) have been slapped with hefty fines for maintaining a slow over-rate in their IPL 2023 clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium on Sunday (April 23).
RCB were found guilty for the second time this season. As a result, Virat Kohli, who led the side against RR as Faf du Plessis played as an Impact Player, has been fined INR 24 lakh while each member of the playing XI was fined Rs 6 lakh or 25 per cent of their match fee.
"Royal Challengers Bangalore, who had named Mr. Virat Kohli as their captain for their game against Rajasthan Royals, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) match against Rajasthan Royals at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on April 23, 2023," the IPL informed in a statement on Monday (April 24).
"As it was his team's second offence of the season under the IPL's Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Mr. Kohli was fined Rs. 24 lakh and each member of the Playing XI, including the impact substitute, was fined Rs. 6 lakh or 25 percent of the match fee, whichever is lesser," the statement said.
Coming to the match, RCB registered a narrow seven-run victory over RR. It was a high-scoring affair, in which the hosts piled up 189/9 on the board while RR managed to post 182/6 in their allotted 20 overs.
Glenn Maxwell starred with the bat for RCB as he slammed 77 off 44 balls. RCB’s regular skipper Faf du Plessis also played a stunning knock of 39-ball 62.
Harshal Patel was the stand-bowler for the home team, returning with the figures of 3 for 32 in his four-over spell.
