IPL 2023: “We are letting ourselves down with the bat,” says Markram as SRH fails to chase 145 against DC

Sunrisers Hyderabad suffered a narrow seven-run defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals.

Aiden Markram | BCCI-IPLAiden Markram was a disappointed captain as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) suffered a narrow seven-run defeat against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium on Monday (April 24).

Chasing 145 to win, SRH’s batting line-up failed to step up to the plate. While there were some notable individual contributions, they couldn’t get the job done as Sunrisers’ innings was restricted to 137/6.

After the game, SRH skipper Markram blamed the batting unit for the loss, citing that they lacked intent.

"Not good with the bat again. Not enough intent. Looked like we were not excited to win this game actually. We have to get back to the drawing board and plan. We want to play a certain brand of cricket. But unfortunately, we are letting ourselves down with the bat," Markram said at the post-match presentation.

It was SRH’s third successive loss this season. Asked about how he will lift the team up, Markram said: "I enjoy doing it but the guys need to bring out their A-game. Incredibly proud of the bowlers. They executed their plans brilliantly. Our bowling side doesn't deserve to be on the losing side tonight. That's the only positive thing we have got out of this game."

With five losses from seven games, Sunrisers Hyderabad are currently languishing at the ninth spot on the points table featuring 10 teams.

SRH will next play the reverse fixture of the same game against DC at Arun Jaitley Stadium on Saturday (April 29).
